Police Force Asbestos Consultancy

Case Study Summary

The provision of asbestos consultancy and surveying services to a major UK police force.

Case Study Overview

Infinity has been providing asbestos consultancy and surveying services to one particular major UK police force since 2017.

This covers approximately 60 buildings, from offices, training buildings and dog handling premises to remote traffic monitoring facilities, police housing and sensitive area buildings.

The team initially undertook full gap analysis on data provided from previous asbestos management reports, as well as on multiple refurbishment and project surveys from each site, identifying any risk associated with asbestos regulations.

Using the data gathered, Infinity then carried out asbestos management surveys to guarantee the police force remained compliant with current regulations and guidance.

A detailed scope of works was provided to the survey team for each site along with relevant risk assessments.

To ensure the quality of its surveys, Infinity undertakes technical audits on all site personnel on a regular basis, in conjunction with the UKAS document RG8.

Our highly trained teams ensure surveys are conducted to a strict schedule and timescale, while always being mindful that some sites are live and in sensitive areas.

Staff are also listed on a unique skills matrix to ensure the most appropriate team members are allocated to each task.

Case Study Impact

Following Infinity’s involvement, all buildings for this police force are compliant with legal obligations.

Police from this force can now access live data reports, asbestos registers and associated databases via our web-based client portal system to ensure all sites remain compliant.

The data is monitored and reviewed daily to guarantee any required actions are planned and completed and that the portfolio is updated accordingly.

Asbestos registers are kept live online, ensuring all building users have access to information relating to asbestos.

Due to increased efficiencies in working methods and practices, this police force has achieved cost savings of around 10-15% for all project work.

Through the use of technology, Infinity’s working systems and a collaborative approach with contractors and design teams, there has also been a significant positive environmental impact.

The client portal system, TEAMS, has been identified as a significant contributor to these efficiencies, reducing the need for site visits and eliminating the requirement for hard copy documentation distribution.

The health and safety impacts for the local community on this project are great. Local contractors working in the buildings are now aware of asbestos locations and as such will not disturb the material – this means the risk of contamination is extremely low.
